Migrate from Microsoft EWS to Microsoft Graph API (for Lightning Sync)

Salesforce is going to deprecate all Microsoft EWS connections. This connection is used in the Lightning Sync configuration. Previously, they've announced to deprecate Lightning Sync as a feature from October '26, but this deprecation is postponed. 

What has not been postponed is the deprecation of Microsoft EWS in October '26. To keep using Lightning Sync, orgs need to migrate from EWS to Graph API before that deadline. To do so, a change is needed on both the Microsoft (by a Microsoft administrator in Microsoft Entra ID) and Byner side (by a Byner administrator and the Microsoft administrator together).

Since we've just released a Byner Calendar Sync, which does more than just event syncing (ie adding Teams meetings to workflow events, and pulling meeting transcriptions and Copilot summaries to Byner), we would like to take this moment also to make sure your Microsoft environment is ready for the eventual migration from Lightning Sync to the Byner Calendar Sync later on. If both Graph APIs are prepared now in one go, the Microsoft administrator doesn't need to be bothered later on and you have the choice when you want to migrate yourself.

To do for the Microsoft administrator:

1. Before 1 October 2026: Follow the steps in this Salesforce article to create a Graph API app, using an Application-level OAuth connection. 
2. Create a second Graph API app to prepare for the Byner Calendar Sync, following the steps in this article. 

To do for the Byner administrator together with the Microsoft administrator:

1. Before 1 October 2026: After step 1 for the Microsoft administrator is finished, follow the steps described in this Salesforce article. In steps 5 and 6, you'll need the Microsoft admin credentials to set up the connection. Either you'll need to get the credentials, or the Microsoft admin takes over your screen to fill them in for you. 

When Lightning Sync is becoming officially retired (in 2027, no exact date given yet), the Byner administrator can follow the steps in this article, to set up the Byner Calendar Sync. If the Microsoft administrator has already created the Graph API app for this, you'll only need the credentials for it, and you can set it up as Byner administrator individually.
